Middle Eastern Fresh Fig and Hazelnut Smoothie September 14 2014 by Simone Denny
This rich creamy smoothie is great for brain health, depression and memory – plus it has a good source fiber, antioxidants, calcium and potassium.
- 3 – 4 fresh ripe figs (fiber, calcium, potassium)
- 2 bananas
- 4 dates
- Pinch of Saffron threads (not for the faint hearted – this has quite a distinct taste so leave it out if you’re not so sure – studies have shown saffron may help to alleviate depression and improve memory)
- ½ C of natural yogurt
- ½ C of almond milk (or milk or milk alternative)
- ½ C of hazelnuts (contains phytochemicals for brain health plus healthy fats and E and B vitamins)
Blend all ingredients in a blender (add additional liquid for your desired consistency). If using the saffron threads – allow the smoothie to sit for a while and golden colour will start to shine through!
